The Young Nebraska Scientists program offers summer science camps at Nebraska college and university campuses for middle and high school students, and paid summer research experiences for high school students.
Interested in a YNS camp but didn't get your application in on time? No problem! We have space available in all of our camps except the Creighton Middle School Nano, which is full. The original funding for Young Nebraska Scientists (YNS) was provided by Nebraska EPSCoR's $9 million Research Infrastructure Improvement (RII) grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) in 2004. Continued funding for YNS is now provided by the latest Nebraska EPSCoR RII Track 1 grant, which began in October 2010.
Activities are designed to inspire, excite, and reinforce confidence in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Student researchers become a contributing member of a university science lab conducting ongoing research The collaborative spirit among Nebraska research and education institutions established by Nebraska EPSCoR will be the critical factor to strengthen the K-12 STEM student-pipeline. YNS will increase participants' technological & scientific literacy place strong emphasis on closing achievement gaps and increase participation of students from underrepresented groups in STEM fields.
